During Play and Inquiry Learning time this week, students from across the neighbourhood were invited to find out about the power of the wind and to think about it as a renewable resource for energy. Some students made plans of their wind-powered tower and later attempted to make one from a pinwheel template. Later in the week we explored the making of a kite which we may revisit at a later date. We also took a huge piece of fabric outside one windy, windy morning and held onto it to form a sail and had lively discussions about sailing on the ocean and flying high in the gusty breezes!
In this week's Integrated Inquiry Workshop students brainstormed and recorded their ideas as to why water is important to all life. They read non-fiction books on water saving and the water cycle. Students learnt about managing the water cycle, including systems in built environments and the place of school, home and self in that cycle. From discussions on water, students explored sources of energy in their lives. They read non-fiction books on sources of energy and the use of and need for energy e.g for heat, light, sound and mechanical. They looked at products and systems that provide energy for personal use.
