Our Integrated Inquiry workshop this week was conducted at The Melbourne Zoo.
Upon arrival students participated in a workshop at the Discovery Centre. Students were introduced to the concepts of live births and hatching from eggs. They learnt about different animals that are born in these different ways. Students learnt new words such as marsupial and mammal and about animals that need their parents when they are born and others that do not.
They then had the opportunity to touch a snake and a green tree frog!
They examined various artefacts and determined which stage of the life cycle each artefact was from.
After lunch students explored the zoo. The discussion from the morning continued throughout the excursion with students sharing their ideas on whether they thought an animal hatched from an egg or was born from a live birth and why.
